After a couple of days off the water due to bad weather we were all excited to get back to sea and find out what was lurking out there in the shallows. We had a bit of rain this morning but that didn’t dampen our spirits one bit. We got our guests into their suits on land this morning and headed straight to the shallows. We had a bit of a wait on our hands this morning, but we even had Elaine on the chum and the decoy to try and lure a shark around Slashfin this morning. It seems her efforts worked this morning as we got ourselves a 4m female great white. This is the same shark with the caudal fin that has laceration on the top half. She gave us one very lovely pass, and was on her way. Some of our divers were able to catch a glimpse of her, but everyone was able to see her from the viewing decks. With trip 1 done we headed back to pick up our second group of guests.
We headed straight back to the shallows for this trip and after about an hour we got a quick glimpse of a Copper shark toward the bow of Slashfin, and up next the 4m female came up, and with a little more energy than the first trip. She gave us 4-5 lovely passes by the cage and even a strike on the decoy line. We got our divers in, but again she didn’t hang around for too long, but we all got some magnificent sightings from the boat.
For our third trip we had an exclusive charter of the boat from an American couple. We got back out to shallows all geared up and ready, and proceeded to wait to catch a shark sighting. An anchor move saw some shark success with the same female from the previous two trips reappearing. She seemed to be in her element this afternoon with some stunning approaches, usually from deep below, and close passes, as close as possible as moved along with only centimeters between shark and cage! A Copper shark also made a quick appearance, moving deep as to not get in the way of the large female White shark.
