This guide had high hopes for her first day back on sea in two weeks as im sure many of our guests did as well, yet you never know what you’re going to get when it comes to nature! We had stunning weather conditions with bright, clear skies, little to no swell and just the slightest of winds that was seen to increase as the day went on. These conditions made for a lovely morning as we waited patiently for our first sightings, and wait we did. It was as if the sharks knew how excited we were for a glimpse but before the main attraction appeared we were happy to watch a few Bronze Whalers and Short-tailed stingrays and even had a visit from a not so frequently spotted bird, a Franklin’s gull. With a quick anchor change our luck with the White sharks improved and we had our first sighting within minutes as one of our big females, “Clampy” came by for a visit, it didn’t end there with two other large individuals appearign throughout the rest of the trip, including “White and Bite”, the female sporting white pigmentation o nthe dorsal fin and a bite scar on the right flank and “Bitey” a smaller male with a bite scar on the left gill section. These three have been sighted frequently over the last few weeks to months. We also had two juveniles, small in size but big in attitude, to round out a great morning on sea.
The afternoon trip followed on from our first trip with sharks and entourage of other animals from first trip, around quickly. The feisty juveniles were back as was the larger female and male shark from the first trip, however there was a new addition for this trip in the shape of a very large female with a hook in the right side of her jaw, a shark we have been seeing on and off over the last month and a half! A fantastic way to finish of a great day and week.
