What a way to end an already fantastic week! We had fantastic conditions out on the water today with flat, still seas that were beautifully clear and some jawesome big fish around! The first trip had a little wait for the first shark to show up, with a juvenile shark the first to show its’ fin! More were to follow and with each new addition arriving the size of these animals continued to increase till the last animal came by measuring in at an estimated 4.0m in length! The second trip launched and headed towards the shallows. It wasn’t a long wait before our first White shark appeared taking everyone by surprise as it speed between the bait and decoy line taking leaps and both and rocketing around the boat! This was an impressive, large male, light in colouration and with little scaring, however it was soon followed by another male similar in size and colour with even more energy yet covered in scars making it easy to identify. We had some smaller individuals visit us throughout the trip once the larger ones had moved out of the way, including one of the juvenile males that was acoustically tagged on the 1st of December through our conservation Trust, DICT. Towards the end of our trip we had a Bank Cormorant get close and friendly with our divers in the water as it dived around the cage on the hunt for fish and nearly became the hunted as the last White shark of the day arrived, a large, dark female that showed a bit of interest in the bird but luckily this cormorant lives to fish another day! A amazing day to be on board with Marine Dynamics for some White shark diving and watching…
