Here we go again! Another day full of sharky action! Today we had 8 different great whites on the first trip, with only a short wait to begin with, we had a small 2.5m white shark around Slashfin and cue the cage divers. We got some nice action from this shark who was soon joined by another couple of medium sized sharks. And then out of nowhere as she is becoming notorious for Hooky screamed out of the water to announce herself. We had some breath-taking stuff from her as usual. She was followed by a few of the smaller white sharks we’ve been seeing around Slashfin recently, and then Bitey the 3.8m male cruised towards us for some acrobatics. To finish up the trip we had the white n bite shark with the bite marks on the right flank gracefully swimming around the boat! With some stingrays in the mix as well we had a very happy bunch of cage divers!
Our second trip of the day began instantly, with a 3.8 meter white shark that looked a lot like Bitey but was covered in several more large scars, primarily near the caudal peduncle (the area where the body connects to the tail). This shark was very inquisitive, circling the boat, inspecting the anchor line, motors, our cage and especially Sally the seal decoy. It was soon followed by the 1.3 meter baby shark which we have finally concluded is a male! His claspers may not be very obvious as he is still very young but they’re there! We had a few passes from a beautiful bronze whaler and also some visits from 2 short tailed stingrays. Our final 3 sharks were just as big as our first, if not bigger, with two at 3.8 meters long and one at 4 meters long. One of these 3 was Bitey, showing off for our cage divers, but he soon lost his time in the spot light as the 4 meter white shark snuck up on us and lunged out of the water. It’s always jaw dropping to see such a large animal easily throw it’s body out of the water with such grace and speed!
