Location: The Shallows
Water Temperature: 13.5
Depth: 9.5 m
Visibility: 5 m
Number of Sharks: First Trip (7 Sharks) – Second Trip (8 Sharks)
Conditions: SE wind, low swell, blue waters top to bottom visibility.
The first trip saw 7 sharks including Jacob a 4 m male white shark, Mandy, a 3 m female white shark, and Mark the shark, a 2.8 m male white shark. Mark the shark is a shark that hasn’t been seen for some months now, so it was exciting to see his return. He has propeller scars across his dorsal fin which give him clear identification marks. The second trip saw a total of 8 sharks with Mandy and Mark the shark still around the cage for a little while at the start of the trip. We also saw two nice sized sharks of around 3.5 m, which were both very active at our decoy and bait, showing nice vertical approaches towards the decoy, similar to what we see in the winter months when the sharks are ambush hunting seals from deep below in order to reduce the escape route for the seals and reduce detection using the bi-colouration to disguise itself in the water. An awesome day on the water!
