Sightings: Bronze whalers and Short-tailed Stingray

Location: Joubertsdam

Water Temperature: Cold

Visibility: Moderate

A wild day out on sea today with some larger swells making for an adventurous journey out to our anchor spot in the Shallows and some wonderful sightings. Due to the low tide we launched from Gansbaai harbour and made our way around Danger Point encountering an amazing array and number of seabirds including a Yellow-nosed Albatross, Giant Petrels and White-Chinned Petrels. Once in the Shallows though we found what we were looking for very quickly as our first shark appeared as our guests were wiggling into their wetsuits. The Bronze whalers were on site from the get go and the sightings continued beautifully as we saw some large, adult females, a feisty male and a very small and shy individual. A Short-tailed Stingray glided up from the depths towards the end of the trip and a Cape Cormorant happily bobbed up and down in front of the cage.
