Trip One
A bright and early start for our divers this morning as we yet again launched from Gansbaai and made our way around Danger Point and to the Islands for some shark cage diving. The shark activity that we witnessed this morning was phenominal to say the least. We had multiple sharks around the boat and sightings constant with a shark within sight at nearly all times. Not only did we have our eyes on a shark most of the trip the activity was stunning with many of the sharks happy to come nice and close for our divers and to also break the waters surface allowing our guests on board and awesome view! We had many well known sharks around this morning including two of Ocearch’s satellite tagged individuals, “Sellendilloh” and “Poseidon”, two males you can find more information on and see where they have been on this site here. We also had one of our own acoustically tagged individuals around, “Sharky Mc Sharkface”, who was tagged from our research vessel , Lwazi, just a few months ago. The largest shark of the trip arrived towards the end, as if she was waiting to make a scene as we finished our trip. This was “Ingrid” a favourite of ours for the last two years now, she is approximately 4.4m in length and has an interesting history that can be read up on an early blog here.
Trip Two
The second trip of the day got off to a flying start with a shark sighted on arrival back at the dive site. Many of the first trip’s sharks were around, including the small, fiesty juveniles, “Sellendilloh” and “Sharky Mc Sharkface”. The activity was yet again startingly good, what is going on in the water we wonder? Whatever it is the conditions must be highly favourable for our White sharks and we are loving it!
Trip Three
The third and final trip headed out this afternoon and we were all wondering if we could make this a hat-trick and have three amazing trips in one day. Moments after arriving it appeared that we were going to end the day as it started…on a high-note! We had a shark around almost instantly and not too long after the highlight of the trip showed up, a female close to 4.5m in length and one showcasing activity similar to the active juvenile White sharks. This large female made her mission to surprise us as she made slow vertical approaches to the bait and decoy line, snatching at our seal decoy multiple times, her head out of the water as if time had slowed down, we were able to really appreciate the beauty of this creature!
An unbelievably good day out in the bay for all on board!
