It was a slow start to the day this morning, however the conditions were nice out on the water and our group of divers patiently waited for a glimpse of the iconic big fish they had traveled to see! We had been anchored for some time, with no activity around our boat and with most of the other companies experiencing the same lack of sharks we hoped we would be one of the lucky ones today and after a two hour wait and one anchor move we saw our first shark of the day! This was a average sized male with what appears to be properler injuries to his dorsal fin. This shark is one we have seen before and we welcomed it back with loud cheers today. We were not only lucky to see one shark but had two others around in the last hour of the trip including a small male with white spots on both sides of the dorsal fin and a larger, darker coloured shark that seemed more interested in investigating the anchor line. The second trip of the day started off well with the first shark spotted 10 minutes after arriving back at the cage, a good sign! This shark was a larger female and whilst she was around for majority of the trip she would come and go not spending as much time in view as we are used to or would like. Thesmall male with white spots of the dorsal fin was also present again this trip but was just as ellusive as he was on the first trip. The third and final trip of the day saw one shark, the large female from the second trip was back! This is a beautiful shark, with some great behaviour, however yet again she came and went as she pleased, so whilst she didn’t spend the whole trip cruising infront of us we felt very previliged by her presence as the other shark cage diving boats that were still out this afternoon had not seen a shark unfortunately! It is always hard when the activity in the bay does go a bit slow, all of us here in Gansbaai are spoiled most of the year with some fantastic shark sightings yet we must remember that we are dealing with nature and many things influence the behaviour and movements of animals. A big thank you to all that joined us today. One, for your patience with the big fish and your crew and two, with your understanding of the unpredictablility that comes with wild animals, in the end we were lucky enough to see some of these beautiful animals…
