Location: Joubertsdam
Water Temperature: 13.9’C
Depth: 9.1m
Visibility: 0.5m-1.0m
Number of Sharks: 2
Conditions: Clear, bright day with little swell but an increasing east wind.

Another day out in the bay, we headed straight into the Shallows where we wouldn’t be so affected by the east winds that were predicted to increase through the day. Other than the slight wind it was a lovely day to be on the water with the sun shining and flat seas, however conditions under the water were unfortunately a bit different with a drop in the water temperature over night we were sitting a tad chilly! Thankfully today we did have some sharks around to help distract our divers from the cold as we spotted our first shark of the day about 50 minutes after anchoring, with a sub-adult male seen moving up our chum slick. This male is one that we recognise from the Island only a few days ago and stuck with us for the entire first cage before heading off and cruising aound the area. We had some slow activity after this as we watched this male move around at distance however towards the end of the trip another shark appeared and it was none other than “Mark” a juvenile male we know very well and had also seen in recent days at the Island. He is easily identifiable by some damage to his dorsal fin yet this does not seem to impeed his behaviour! Great to see these two active males in the Shallows after the last four weeks of non-existent or slow activity in the area! We also had a surprise visitor in the form of a Cape Fur seal today that showed up in our chum slick and then proceeded to duck and dive around the cage much to the delight of those on board and in the cage! Another successful day of shark cage diving, we hope to see this continueing…
