It was a bright and early start this morning for our first group and crew with the morning chill felt in the air and the sun just starting to rise as we made our way down to the harbour for launch. Whilst those onboard we still in the process of waking up it appeared the sharks were ready to go with the first sighting happening not long after the boat had anchored. This was a large female White shark known to us as Clampy due to the distinctive marks on her dorsal fin indicating a less invasive, short term deployment of monitoring equipment in the past on this animal. She was seen for much of the start of the trip with some great passes before disappearing and making way for a Short-tailed stingray to glide into view. A quick anchor change was made hoping for some more luck with the sharks and it was at this new spot that Clampy showed up again, finishing off the White shark sightings for the trip.
Back on sea again, Slashfin and her new group of hopeful guests made their way back to the Shallows where again they were greeted by a White shark quickly after arriving. This time male clampy joined us for a stupendous trip this morning. He joined us for pretty much the entire trip having a couple of shots at the seal decoy. We also got the 3m shark with the pigmentation marks around the left side of the gills. We had divers going down pretty much the whole trip much to the delight of all of our guests on board! With the addition of a couple of cape fur seals and a stingray we were spoilt for choice!
For our third trip we had a shark sightings very quickly around Slashfin, with not one but two individuals appearing soon after we had reanchored. These two were both males and both around the 3.0m length, including the easily identifable male with clamp marks on his dorsal fin, marks made by a clamp attached to the fin to monitor the animal for example the speed it is swimming. These two stuck around for the first two cages before disappearing and we began seal cage diving yes thats right seal cage diving as a Cape Fur seal entertained our divers and guests on board.
