Due to low tide we launched from Gansbaai harbour. On our way around Danger Point we were lucky and spotted some whale footprints, we slowed down our vessel and got to see a Bryde’s whale briefly. Arrived at our dive site in the shallows we immediately had two great white sharks around our vessel Slashfin. In total we saw 12 different white sharks, as well as one of our acoustic tagged ones. We also had another short tailed stingray coming up closer towards the cage. Todays third cage was special as one of our clients proposed to his girlfriend in the cage, while looking at the sharks. Congratulations! After a truly memorable trip for all of us we were heading back to the Kleinbaai harbour.

Trip two was excellent- no waiting time at all the white sharks simply arrived when we did! A 3.2m male shark with a badly damaged dorsal fin showed some very relaxed behaviour, sticking his head out of the water frequently and spy hopping. ‘Mini Rosie’ and two large 4.3-4.5m sharks circled well within view of divers and many guests were able to dive twice. A really nice trip!

The third trip was equally as impressive, again with abundant shark interactions almost immediately. We had the Australian underwater hockey team on our boat- naturally they were very comfortable in the cage and despite a drop in viz got some very close looks at various individual white sharks. The majority of sharks on this trip were resights from trip two- including the small male shark we now know as ‘Cutfin’. It is incredible to see some of the extensive injuries this species of shark can heal from, they really are hardy creatures!
