We ventured out this morning into lovely sunshine and were eager to get out and see some sharks. We didn’t have to wait long for our first sharks to appear around the boat, with a couple of keen copper sharks wanting to check out what all the fuss was about around Slashfin! We got our divers in the cage and ready to get face to face with some awesome predators. The copper sharks had some steady activity through the entire trip, with all our divers getting some nice views of the sharks from the cage as well as from the boat. While we were unable to grab a white shark sighting the copper shark activity more than made up for that.
For our second trip we headed straight back to the shallows and geared our cage divers up. Again the copper sharks were ready and raring to go. So cue the first cage of divers in the water to witness some spectucialr close passes from these slender sharks. With the seal still predating on the shy sharks on the sea floor we got some interesting behaviours from the little juvenile, clearly refining its hunting strategy. We also had a young Cape Gannet flying around on this trip, hunting the mullet that hang around at the surface. On top of this we also had a lovely stingray sighting as well. With a plethora of wildlife and a bonus of some southern right whales milling around in the bay we were all content!
Our third and final trip of the day saw the wind pick up a little, but the weather wasn’t going to dampen our spirits in seeing sharks. With some excellent copper shark action to start the trip off, we all of a sudden glimpsed the outline of a white shark cruising in the distance. With a little patience up it came and wow what a shark. This 2.5m great white shark although smaller than some of the copper sharks, was by no means any less feisty. With some stunning attempts on the bait line this shark gave our divers and guests on board a wonderful display of what great whites are all about. The white shark came and went through the trip and we were all in awe of the shark, a great day on the water!
