Location: Joubertsdam
Temperature: 12.9°C
Depth: 8.5m
Visibility: 2m
Conditions: Cloudy day, with a bit of rain in the morning, clearing up in the afternoon.
This morning it was raining, so our guests received their wetsuits while on shore. Afterwards we made our way down to the harbour, and headed out to our dive-site. Soon after the cage was lowered into the water, the first Copper sharks arrived, and our divers climbed into the cage. Soon the rain stopped and the wind slowed down, making the trip a lot more enjoyable. Our divers were thrilled by the sight of these beautiful animals. Later a Cape Fur Seal visited the boat as well. Once our guests were back on shore, they were treated with some ginger ale, vegetable soup, and homemade bread.
For our second trip we were joined by a family of 4 from the UK for an exclusive charter. We left the harbour in a little drizzle, but that did not deter us as we headed straight over to the islands to check out the seals, shark alley and even a few penguins. After a fantastic opportunity to see the seals we headed round to the shallows to pick up our cage, and get our divers up close with some sharks! We didn’t have to wait too long for the copper sharks to arrive, and they gave our guests a fantastic up close encounter with multiple close passes by the cage. We wrapped up the trip discussing all things shark on the top deck of Slashfin and enjoyed watching the shark activity from above the water.
Our final trip headed out with what appeared to be clearing weather, and as we arrived to our dive sight we got geared up and prepped the cage. The copper sharks were upon us within minutes on this trip, so cue the divers and into the atlantic we got. Our first group of divers received some stunning passes at both ends of the cage and some very happy divers indeed. The activity of the sharks was excellent through the trip, with an added bonus! We got ourselves a 7 gill cow shark midway through this trip. It was awesome to see this rather pre-historic looking shark so close to the cage and amogst the copper sharks, you can really see the differences between the species. After a quick visit form a cape fur seal, we got our cage on the back of Slashfin and headed back to the harbour.
