Well it looks like the lovely weather is continuing this week with today seeing us with flat seas, blue skies and a light wind to keep things fresh. We had a little bit of a wait this morning but with such nice weather it wasn’t hard to enjoy the time on board, but as we approached an hour of waiting a large male made a beautiful vertical approach on the bait line and it was none other than “Jacob”, one of Marine Dynamic’s favourite sharks to see! His arrival sparked the quick arrival off two others including a smaller female we have been seeing now for close to 4 weeks that we know as “Mandy” and a even smaller male that is part of our tagging program! It’s as if the activity of one sharks attracts more in! Towards the end of the trip we saw a female similar in size to “Jacob” arrive, she in turn was the most active and favourite shark of the trip. The second trip started off well with sharks around the boat straight after arriving back at the dive site. This included a few individuals the first trip saw plus some new additions, one a large 4.0m individual that easily wowed those on board and also a smaller male approximately 3.2m in length that stole the show on our trip yesterday. This male is covered in parasites and has some lovely behaviour as he slowly approaches and opens his jaw making for some fantastic photographs (see below for evidence!). The third and final trip launched for the day and saw the sharks still in the area again when we arrived back to the Shallows. The shark that appeared first was the male with the parasites and he ended up staying for the entire trip, dominating over all the other sharks that tried to get closer. We had two of our accoustically tagged individuals yet again show up, a great opportunity for those on board to see and learn about one way you can study White sharks! We also saw the return of a smaller individual we have not seen for a few days, however it was a bit shy around the larger sharks and did not stick around to play. A thoroughly enjoyable day out on the water, we hope all those that joined us enjoyed the day just as much as we did…
