Well you couldn’t say our first group this morning was not a determined and patient bunch as we set off down to the harbour at dawn. We were the first boat anchored in the bay and were able to witness the sunrise from the sea and soon after our first shark was spotted cruising by. This little juvenile kept deep however due to the great visibility we still were able to see this small shark gliding by. Things became quiet on the shark side with that small shark disappearing however we did have a Short-tailed stingray appear and a Southern Right whale moving through the bay, close enough to our anchor spot for a beautiful view. An anchor change was decided on after some time waiting and the second anchor saw two more sharks join the count for the morning. The juvenile from the first anchor did re-appear but we also managed to see a slightly larger female White shark and a 3.0m male showed up right at the end of our trip making some fantastic passes and finishing off the tour with a bang. Whilst our first group was warming up by the heaters and enjoying some hot soup at the Great White House our second group for the day were on their way out and soon had their own shark sighting.
And on this trip we were treated to some fantastic sharks! Our first shark of the trip was the 3m male with the vertical scars on the left side just behind the gills. He had some smashing activity for us, with some excellent passes by the cage. He cruised around with a certain degree of dominance, and then he headed off for the afternoon, and maybe because there was something bigger in store for us! Alfred had spotted something big in the chum line, and it turned out to be 4.5m female, with a dorsal fin that looks like it could have been satellite tagged in the past. She gave us some incredible out of the water activity, and after around 5 minutes with us off she went as well, but a stunning trip needless to say.
