Another beautiful sunrise met us in Kleinbaai today as we left the harbour for a morning of what we hoped would be a day full of shark action and an increase in the water clarity! We were the first boat into the clear, flat bay and whilst settling onto anchor and handing out wetsuits our first shark was spotted cruising around and under the back of the boat. This was a juvenile White shark but we have come to know that the small ones can be just as awe-inspiring as the larger ones as they tend to rely on their speed and agility which makes for some amazing views! This juvenile was quickly followed by a larger male, close to 3.5m in length and the sharks just kept appearing after this. We had a steady flow of sharks with only a few moments of silence this morning, much excitement was heard on board Slashfin with the arrival of a 4.0m+ female, known to the Marine Dynamics team and easily recognisable by the distinctive notch in her dorsal and also when a juvenile male known as “Dolphinfin”, due to the very curved tip of his dorsal fin, decided to get up close and personal to the divers!

The second trip of the day was an exclusive for a couple visiting from Australia. The same fantastic conditions greeted this trip just as this morning, with the warm sun shining down and conditions on the sea perfect. Yet again we had a shark almost instantly and the activity did not stop the entire time as shark after shark made multiple passes around the cage and boat. We saw a fantastically active juvenile on this trip, one that had joined us this morning as well, leaping here there and everywhere and also the addition of a large female that also surprisingly displayed similar activity. Before heading back to the harbour we made a trip by the Island to say a brief hello to the Cape fur seals as they too enjoyed the stunning weather today had on offer!

The third trip got off to a bit of a slow start.  We moved to a new anchor position and found a lot of success. We had a nice range of sizes today with sharks between 2m and 4.4 m.  Today we also had 2 young cage divers who braved their fears and got in the water.  They were both superstars!  We love having youngsters onboard, because it is never too early to start educating about white sharks.  They can now go back and tell all their friends about how amazing the sharks are instead of having fear.
