What a lovely day out on the water…the sun was shining, the water was warm and the sharks were ready to play! We had been on anchor for only five minutes when our first White shark of the day turned up, a smaller individual but none the less amazing and one that kept with us for most of the day! Before long though we had a number of sharks visiting Slashfin including “Jacob”, Pieter”, “Flubs” and a average sized male very slow and particular in his movements which made for some great viewing. The second trip of the day had an even smaller waiting time with a shark on arrival, a male with some deep scratches to his snout that we have been seeing every now and again recenlty…if we are lucky. “Mandy” and one of our r-coded acoustically tagged females turned up during this trip making sure that the female sharks got some time in the lspot light! The third and final trip of the day saw a repeat of the second trip with sharks around as we approached our site, fantastic to not have to wait and also great to see a continuation of new sharks ariving throughout the trip. This included “Mark the shark” a smaller male easily identifiable by some damage to his dorsal fin. Whilst he was the second shark to visit this afternoon he stuck around for the entire trip taking his time to come up, however towards the end of the trip we all received a big surprise in the form of “Mark” breaching out of the water towards the back of the boat, coming about two meters into the air before landing back in the water. We believe this could have been for one of two reasons, one, something was underneath this shark and he felt intimidated with the only way of escape being up and two, he was interested in something on the surface say some tasty Mullets or Mackerels! Those friendly Short-tailed stingrays also paid a visit to each trip! An exciting day out and around the bay…
