Location: Geldsteen
Water Temperature: 19.0’C
Depth: 10.8m
Visibility: 2.0m
Number of Sharks: 2
Conditions: Slightly overcast day with a slight swell and little wind.

Today we headed straight out towards the Islands to try our luck in the Geldsteen. We arrived and as we were anchoring we got a thumbs up from one of the other boats, a fantastic sign, could this be a successful shark day? Within 20 minutes we had our first sighting, a juvenile male that we have seen before and an individual that has earnt a name on board Marine Dynamics due to the damage to its’ dorsal fin and also the reat behaviour we see from it around the boat. This was “Mark” and he continued to pop up throughout the trip. We also had another male arrive not too long after, a tad bit bigger than “Mark” however a bit more shy then the smaller shark. Both these animals stuck with us for the entire trip yet took a few passes in front of the cage before leaving us scanning the waters for their reappearance to which they would oblige every 20 minutes or so. We took a cruise through Shark Alley to have a look at the Cape Fur seals and were also treated to the sight of two Giant Petrels. So marvellous to have two sharks around the boat, we can only hope that this is he beginning and that more sharks will be spotted over the next few days…
