With only one trip planned we had the whole day to wait for the wildlife, however patience was not needed as our first shark showed its fin only five minutes after our anchor was dropped. This was “Mandy”, a smaller female we have had the pleasure of seeing most days over the last few weeks. A favourite on board for crew and visitors alike, with behaviour that makes it hard not to like her and a distinctive scar making it easy for everyone to identify her. We were also lucky to see two of our recently tagged sharks, a fantastic sight for those on board to help them understand the research being conducted through the company and conservation trust, DICT. The star of the show today was not the largest shark but a sub adult male covered in parasites that arrived an hour after we anchored and stayed with us for two hours, right till the end of the trip. This male, an individual we have seen before with his last visit logged in March of this year, showed some amazing behaviour! Not only did he stick around he also got very close to the cage and was at the surface constantly so we could have a better look and get those perfect photographs. Back in March when he visited he did not have such an issue with parasites, these are copepods and it is not rare for us to see such attatchments however this shark is covered with them and has scars from previous attachments aswell which really makes us think where and what he has been up to? Apart from the parasites this shark looks well and behaves amazingly! A great “white” morning of cage diving, some-fin everyone should try…
