Another early morning start as the Marine Dynamics crew and first trip guests headed out of Kleinbaai just after 7am. THe anchor spot was chosen and they settled down to begin the wait for a shark to appear. The first sighting was that of a Copper shark or Bronze Whaler, a ever increasing sighting over the last week or so, this species is great to see around the boat with its’ fast paced swimming and amazing agility. The Short-tailed stingrays also came to the surface today, the warmer waters has us encountering this elasmobranch more frequently over the last week much like the Copper sharks. As the trip was nearing its’ end is when things became very exciting as a Great White shark appeared out of the blue, a large female, estimated just over 4.0m in length she is thought to be another new individual to the bay for the season.
The second trip of the day launched and the Copper sharks were straight back to it with these sharks appearing quickly and keeping things interesting for the whole trip. The Short-tailed stingray also made a re-appearance for this trip, coming and going from view and it glided from deep down to the surface and back amongst all the Copper sharks.
The day finished off in similar fashion to our second trip as the third trip launched and our guests were quickly introduced to the Copper shark. This species of shark made the afternoon as they came and went as did another visit from the Short-tailed stingray. A great way to finish of the first day of the month.
