Day to day. Trip to trip. We never know what exactly to expect! Our first trip of the day launch a little bit later than normal due to the low tide. We waited for a while and soon had a bronze whaler visiting the boat. Other than this, we hadn’t seen anything but kelp gulls and Hartlaub’s gulls so we decided to pull our anchor and reposition to see if we could have some better luck in a different spot in the bay. Within 5 minutes of switching anchor, we were in luck! A gorgeous 4 meter white shark approached our bait line. It hung around for a while, occasionally swimming under the cage giving our divers a different perspective. It eventually disappeared into the depths and was quickly followed by three juvenile white sharks. These sharks were between 1.3 and 1.7 meters long, all of which we have seen within the past week. They were joined by 2 box jellies, drifting along in the current, and 2 very curious short tailed stingrays. The last shark to visit during this trip was a very active 2.7 meter male white shark who had several goes at Sally the seal decoy and our bait line. He lunged out of the water, showing off how hydrodynamic these beautiful animals bodies truly are. As we were packing up to leave, a lone humpback dolphin was spotted in the distance hunting in the surf. These cetaceans are rare to see as there are only approximately 500 left along our coast line and it was a nice treat to end our trip with one in sight.

For the second trip of the day we headed out in sunny skies and calm seas, with a whole lot of excitement on our minds! We had a stupendous trip with wall to wall sharks, a total of 7 different sharks and a whole lot of action. Having matched the fins we can also confirm that Hooky is back. Although the hook still remains imbedded in her jaw we weren’t certain. But low and behold it’s her. With about a month since she was last spotted in the area it was awesome to see her back again. She was incredible on this trip, giving our divers some fantastic displays of her raw power. But it is a healthy reminder to our guests that although these animals have been afforded official protection, there are still many threats to white sharks in the vast ocean around our shores. We had a couple of the small white sharks cruising around at the start of the trip, with a 4m female with two rosie either side of the dorsal fin joining towards the end. With a copper shark and 2 stingrays we were again treated to more than we bargained for out on the water!
