We had a nice surprise waiting for us this morning as we made our way out of the harbour and into the Shallows…a Subantarctic Skua! These birds are seasonal and we see them from March to October of each year in the bay. A great way to the start of the month and Skua season! Once on anchor we had our first shark show up quickly with an average size male known to us as “PJ” arriving just five minutes after we anchored. He spent much of the first half of the trip enthralling those onboard with his close passes by the cage. We had two larger sharks come and visit however they did not stick around but made way for another male similar in size to “PJ” but with a rolled tip to the dorsal fin, this shark had some great activity and showed of the true speed and agility of the White shark. The second trip of the day launched and we headed back to our anchor sight with a small juvenile White shark arriving just after we did. The activity slowed down this afternoon however we still had some fantastic sightings expecially when the male with the rolled dorsal fin came back for a visit and had the same active behaviour we saw this morning. We also had glimpses of the Shorttailed stingray on both this and this mornings trip. Thank you to all that joined us on board Slashfin today…
