What a beautiful day the first of February proved to be out in the bay! We headed into the Shallows this morning in the hopes of finding the currently elusive White shark! Sitting on anchor for close to 2 hours we enjoyed the sunshine but our visitors were not here for a tan and after hearing of rumours of a possible shark sighting at the Island we packed up and headed out to try a new dive site. We re-anchored in the Geldsteen, just to north west of Dyer Island and one of my personal favourite spots for the White sharks, however today proved unlucky with no sightings there either. Whilst there may not have been any sharks around our divers decided to enjoy the warm water and have a dip! With the cage out of the water and the anchor about to be pulled, our skipper spotted something just off the front of the boat, a Sunfish also known as a Mola mola! This is the heavest bony fish known in the seas and have the heaviest has been recorded at approximately 1000kgs. Whilst the one we saw was a smaller individual it was still very interesting. Before heading back to Kleinbaai we went for a cruise through Shark Alley and paid a visit to the Cape Fur seals on Geyser Rock, always an entertaining animal to watch! While no White sharks were spotted today we hope that our visiters enjoyed their day out on the water and we are truly grateful for the patience and understanding that we have received from our clients during this scarcity of sharks…
