Every year on the 25th of February, Marine Dynamics and Dyer Island Cruises donate vessels to the commemoration of the BIrkenhead disaster. This year, a slow swell and sunny skies made for a memorable service.
The HMS Birkenhead was an english ship that ran into a shallow rock just off of Danger Point in 1852. It was the first use of the Birkenhead Drill of “women and children first,” which is now incorporated into maritime law.
