We launched as the sun was rising and got to see a beautiful sunrise over the Kleinbaai harbour. The day couldn’t start better and continued to be as great. We had sharks shortly after we dropped the anchor in the Jubertsdam, also known as ‘the Shallows’. At the beginning of the trip we had some juveniles around the vessel and they were estimated to be around three meter. But after less than an hour out at sea a big shark of four meter arrived around ‘Slashfin’ and showed us some great shark behaviour. Inbetween all the shark action a short tailed stingray approached the bait and decoy a few times. In total we encountered seven different Great White sharks during our first trip and had great activity all the time.
The second trip of the day was an exclusive for a group visiting from all over the world on a team building trip in Cape Town. Soon after arrival, we had our first two sharks come by before disappearing and things became quiet however soon after a male with a healed wound to the head arrived and the activity started to increase with the very well known “Mini Nemo”, “Floppy” and “Gray” all joining the list of sharks that graced us with their presence.
The third trip of the day was off to a great, big start with a shark sighted only minutes after we were back on anchor and it happened to be the largest shark of the day, measuring in at approximately 4.5m in length, this female stuck around for most of the trip, making an appearance at the surface every now and again. We had many of the previous trip’s sharks re-appear including “Mini Nemo”, “Floppy” and “Gray” as well as some of the juveniles.
The Short-tailed stingray also appeared on all three trips today, an addition to the sightings and one that thankfully did not disturb our White shark sightings of the day which turned out to all be FIN-omenal!
