We came for sharks, but were treated to so much more! As Slashfin launched this morning, we had a feeling it was going to be a good day, we just didn’t realize how special it would be. As we ventured to our dive spot, the sun was rising behind the mountains, and we were hopeful for what the day would bring. Our skipper slowed the boat and it quickly became clear what he was seeing. Within seconds we were surrounded by approximately 200 common dolphins, several of which were bow riding right beneath our feet! It was an absolutely amazing way to start our day. We pushed on and got to our anchor site, and within a minute of anchoring, we had a copper shark circling the boat! Could the day get any better? Yes! We had white sharks within the next 30 minutes! It was the 3.7 meter female that we saw yesterday with the white scar on her head and tail. We were also lucky to see a smaller juvenile, approximately 2.3 meters long, and another larger shark at 3.7 meters with a distinguishable white scar on her dorsal fin. If animal sightings couldn’t get any better, we also had several other copper sharks come visit, as well as a couple of short-tailed stingrays. A fantastic morning for sea life in the bay!

The second trip of the day launched and was back onto anchor within 20 minutes and 10 minutes later we had our first White shark, talk about no waiting time! This was the female without the upper lobe to the caudal or tail fin that has been seen on and off for the last 6 weeks, she didn’t stick around too long with the arrival of another female, pretty much the same size as well. This one caused a bit of a stir, sneaking up on us and attempting to grab the bait and on a few occasions leaping out of the water, however, she too soon disappeared leaving us with some Copper shark sightings and some Short-tailed stingrays visiting. The last White shark sighting for the day happened right at the end of the trip as Clampy came by for a visit, yet again a female, in the same size region as the other two, and been sighted in the bay for the last 6 weeks. She made a few passes, mostly down deep before we called the end of the trip and day! A nice end to a very nice day!
