  • Shark cage diving in Gansbaai, South Africa with Marine Dynamics. Experience the exceptional and come face to face with a great white shark!

  • The exact world record white shark is a contested issue, but chances are it is between 6-7m. In Gansbaai, the largest white shark ever caught was at Danger Point and measured up to 5.9m.

  • If you see a white shark in the water don’t panic. Chances are high that the shark has already detected you and isn’t interested. White shark attacks are normally associated with poor visibility, so avoid murky conditions.

  • White sharks have a unique system called a “counter current heat exchange”, which keeps their body  tempreture +/- 7C above the surrounding water temperature.

  • All sharks have an incredibly unique system on the tip of their nose called the “ampillae of Lorenzini”. These are small pores filled with a gel that transmits the electrical currents in the water to the shark’s brain so that it can assess its environment.

  • White sharks give birth to live young (not eggs), and they give birth to 6-8 pups at one time. Pups are usually between 1.0-1.5m in length and are born with teeth.

  • Body language has been a well documented form of shark communication and has identified body arching, jaw gaping, and other postures as specific social tactics.

Trip Summaries:

Trip 1.

A bright and beautiful day out in the bay, and we enjoyed some great conditions for shark cage diving. The first trip had just finished anchoring when a Cape fur seal popped up alongside us and spent much of the rest of the trip darting around the Bronze whaler sharks, the first of which appeared not too long after the seal. The shark sightings were consistent throughout the trip with a high number of individuals seen, and a high level of activity exhibited by these individuals. Guests enjoyed up close and personal views as the sharks cruised around in front of the cage as did the crew and guests onboard with some fantastic surface action. A big thank you to all our guests that joined us, we hope you enjoyed your time on the sea with the sharks and the Marine Dynamics team!

Trip 2.

We were a smaller but very excited group for the last trip today! The visibility was great even tho the westerly wind was picking up something our guest and crew were aware of! As som as we anchored our guest quickly got into their wetsuits with no problem and was ready for the cage dive experience, With the Bronze whaler sharks! We also got a surprise when a Broadnose sevengill shark showed up and stayed close by for a few minutes! On our way back to the harbor we spotted a pod of Bottlenose dolphins which was a great bonus to the end of our trip!

Thanks to all our guests for joining us today!
