Marine Biologist

Amy, a marine biologist from South Africa, brings a wealth of expertise in elasmobranch distribution and identification to Marine Dynamics. Her academic journey began with an undergraduate degree in Marine Biology, followed by a master’s in Tropical Marine Biology in the UK, providing her with a solid foundation and a global perspective on marine ecosystems.

Amy joined Marine Dynamics Academy as an intern in 2022, focusing on innovative research methods. Her project involved exploring the use of photo-ID as a mark-recapture method for benthic catsharks in South Africa, demonstrating her commitment to advancing scientific understanding and conservation techniques.

Today, Amy is an integral part of our shark cage diving team. Her extensive knowledge and enthusiasm for marine life enhance the experience for guests, providing insightful information about shark behaviour and conservation. Her ability to communicate complex scientific concepts eagerly ensures that each dive is both educational and memorable.

In addition to her guiding responsibilities, Amy plays a crucial role in nurturing the next generation of marine scientists. As the coordinator of intern activities within our skills-based scientific internship programme, she mentors and supports interns, sharing her expertise and passion for marine biology. Her leadership helps shape the future of marine conservation by empowering young scientists to pursue their research and conservation goals.

Amy’s journey from studying marine biology in South Africa and the UK to becoming a key member of the Marine Dynamics team reflects her dedication and passion for marine conservation. Her dual role as a guide and internship coordinator allows her to make significant contributions to both our guest experiences and our scientific endeavours.
