  • Shark cage diving in Gansbaai, South Africa with Marine Dynamics. Experience the exceptional and come face to face with a great white shark!

  • The exact world record white shark is a contested issue, but chances are it is between 6-7m. In Gansbaai, the largest white shark ever caught was at Danger Point and measured up to 5.9m.

  • If you see a white shark in the water don’t panic. Chances are high that the shark has already detected you and isn’t interested. White shark attacks are normally associated with poor visibility, so avoid murky conditions.

  • White sharks have a unique system called a “counter current heat exchange”, which keeps their body  tempreture +/- 7C above the surrounding water temperature.

  • All sharks have an incredibly unique system on the tip of their nose called the “ampillae of Lorenzini”. These are small pores filled with a gel that transmits the electrical currents in the water to the shark’s brain so that it can assess its environment.

  • White sharks give birth to live young (not eggs), and they give birth to 6-8 pups at one time. Pups are usually between 1.0-1.5m in length and are born with teeth.

  • Body language has been a well documented form of shark communication and has identified body arching, jaw gaping, and other postures as specific social tactics.

Trip Summaries:

Trip 1.

We started out with some beautiful Cape Cormorant sightings when leaving the harbor today!  We started out with no wind and a flat sea on the anchor site! All our guests and diver could not wait to get into their wetsuits quickly enough!
As soon as the cage got into the clear water the first Bronze whaler shark appeared! We could enjoy amazing visibility and plenty of mature Bronze whaler females around throughout the whole trip! We also got to enjoy a few Storm petrels dancing on top of the water's surface! Overall a great day with amazing shark sightings and perfect visibility for all our divers!  We at Marine dynamics hope all our guests and divers enjoyed their adventure with us out at sea today! Thanks for joining!

Trip 3.

A beautiful start to our third trip with some stunning conditions on the bay. We had just anchored when multiple Bronze whaler sharks were seen around the boat, our divers were quick to get into their suits, and our first cage entered the water shortly after with a high number of sharks along with a seal around the boat and cage. The activity from the sharks was continuous throughout the trip with eyes on sharks at all times and the happily hunting seal also coming close enough to the cage for our second group of divers to have a nice view as it chased small fish around. We finished up our successful trip as the wind started to pick up and made our way back to the harbour. A big thank you to all our guests that joined us onboard for the trip, we hope you all enjoyed your experience with the MD team!
